About the Item
This distinguished vintage Persian Bidjar rug, woven in the early 1900s, is a superb example of the artistry and enduring craftsmanship for which Bidjar carpets are revered. The composition is centered around a finely drawn medallion with graceful anchor pendants, outlined in a deep golden hue that enriches the palette. Four corner bouquets of roses add balance and refinement, woven in an array of harmonious tones including blue, red, ivory, and pink.
Bidjar weavers employed the rare “wetting of the weft” technique, where each row of the foundation was moistened before combing and compacting. This process required nearly double the material of other Persian rugs, resulting in one of the densest and most durable constructions in the weaving tradition. Known as the “iron rugs of Persia,” Bidjar carpets embody both structural strength and artistic elegance.
