This early 20th-century Persian Mehraban rug is a radiant expression of village weaving tradition from northwestern Iran. At its center lies a large floral medallion, its stylized petals and leafy tendrils blossoming amidst a vibrant field teeming with even more floral clusters. A complex border encircles the design, composed of multiple slim stripes woven with petite, rhythmic floral motifs that create a sense of elegant movement. The palette is exceptionally lively—brilliant greens, vivid oranges, soft whites, pinks, coral tones, and deep indigo all working in harmony to create a rich visual tapestry.
Mehraban rugs are hand-knotted by tribal and village weavers near Hamadan, a region long celebrated for its robust and decorative rugs.
