This mid-20th century Persian Malayer rug, measuring 2' 6" x 3' 11", features a balanced and symmetrical design distinguished by its central hexagonal medallion. The medallion, set on a warm terra-cotta field, is filled with a stylized lattice of boteh-inspired floral motifs in shades of ivory, rust, and soft green. Extending from the medallion, elongated vertical stems connect to finely drawn blossoms, giving the composition a graceful, columnar quality. The surrounding field is richly decorated with scattered floral rosettes and geometric accents, harmonizing the structure of the design. Framing the composition is a wide main border with an ivory ground, adorned with angular floral and leaf motifs in repeating patterns, flanked by inner and outer guard stripes featuring meandering vine forms. The rug’s earthy palette, with subtle abrashed transitions, embodies the Malayer weaving tradition’s ability to blend geometric precision with fluid botanical ornamentation, creating a piece that is both decorative and timeless.
