About the Item

This antique, circa 1880, Persian Serapi rug has a brick-red field with a polychrome angular palmette and serrated leaf vine around an indigo-blue and dusty-pink central medallion and moss-green palmette pendants, the ivory stepped central lozenge with a brick-red lozenge issuing angular serrated leaf and flowerheads surrounded by bold polychrome cartouches surrounded by angular floral and leafy vine, the ivory, sea-green and dusty-pink stepped spandrels similar, in a brick-red border with turtle-palmettes linked by angular floral and leafy vine between ivory and sea-blue floral vine stripes. Persian Serapi rugs, originating from the Heriz region in northwestern Iran, are prized for their durability, rich geometric designs, and vibrant color palettes. Known for their large central medallions and bold patterns, these rugs typically feature deep reds, blues, and ivory tones, derived from natural vegetable dyes.
