Large Antique Persian Bidjar Rug, Early 20th Century Fine drawing combined with sturdy construction are the hallmarks of great Bidjar carpets. This elegant oversized example is in keeping with some of the best of the genre. Delicate rows of alternating Persianate motifs are drawn against a deep rose field in jewel-like tones of blue and green. The major geometric quatrefoil forms as well as the outlining of palmettes and representation of foliage are all constructed from stylized lilies. A narrow indigo border flanked by lighter guard stripes is the perfect framing for this delicate composition.
