This outstanding late 19th-century Persian Heriz rug is a truly exceptional example of masterful tribal craftsmanship from the Heriz region of northwest Iran, renowned for producing some of the most coveted and collectible Persian rugs. Distinguished by its bold, geometric design, this piece showcases a mesmerizing central medallion adorned with exquisitely stylized floral motifs, vibrant leaves, and gracefully scrolling vines. The medallion is framed by a larger field filled with even more intricately rendered vines and blossoms, creating a harmonious tapestry of color and pattern. A wide border repeats a large-scale floral and vine motif, flanked by two petite floral patterned stripes, adding depth and visual balance. The rug’s lovingly-worn pile is woven with vegetable-dyed yarns in a rich palette of crimson, light and dark indigo, pink, cream, and green, highlighting the artisans’ skill.
