Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1920-1930, this 14x19 oversized antique Persian Sultanabad rug is an extremely rare and exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s curations of this celebrated weaving tradition.
On the Design:
This antique Sultanabad Persian rug sports both traditional and transitional design elements, including an especially elegant wrapping series of mirrored floral borders and an all-over floral design accentuating the abrashed beige-gold colorways highlighting this antique’s spacious, versatile body. The border shows a refined series of rosettes and vine scrolls on a golden beige ground, its scale perfectly proportioned to balance the central design. Keen eyes for detail may admire that each element maintains clear definition while contributing to the overall pattern coherence. The large size allows the design to develop full grandeur while preserving the refined aesthetics characteristic of classical Oriental carpets.
