About the Item

Oversized Persian Bakhtiari Carpet, 19th Century (4th Quarter) This vibrant, oversized Bakhtiari utilizes particularly beautiful vegetal colors, including brilliant yellow and deep terracotta. Of nomadic origin, Bakhtiari weavers of western Persia were nonetheless capable of expressing the elegance and refinement of traditional Persian design. In deference to the Qajar Persian taste of the late nineteenth century, these vivid colors are expertly balanced with deep indigo and measured, but effective, whites. Camel wool is utilized for highlights. This exceptional ethnographic weaving appeals to both collectors and decorators alike—a real tour de force.
