About the Item
In deep shades of blue, gold, red, pink, and cream wool, this hand-knotted Persian carpet measures 3’5” x 5’3” and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s World Market Collection. Woven in Iran, this carpet has been crafted using traditional Persian weaving techniques. These techniques provide a plush, soft pile that is held together by a durable and functional foundation without the use of glues or latex. To obtain the rich tones of wool, the weaver utilized organic vegetable dyes for their bright tones that are also fade-resistant. The pattern incorporates two classic Persian designs, a classic Persian flower garden and the traditional tree of life design. The flower garden design incorporates vertical flower and bush motifs that stretch from one side of the carpet to the other. The tree of life design is showcased by the multiple weeping willow motifs rising from the rich blue background. This motif is prominent in Persian textiles and symbolizes the connection between life and our earth. Encircling the tranquil field design is an intricate, multi-level border. This border is home to paisley motifs along with a simplistic Herati, which wraps around and interconnects. Since this piece measures under 4' x 6', it is ideal for a living room, a bedroom, or wherever small area carpeting is needed.
