This vintage, circa 1970, Persian Gabbeh runner has an undyed ivory field with a column of four tobacco-brown hooked lozenges each containing a central chocolate-brown hooked panel linked by a polychrome smaller diamond lozenge with hooked motifs at each side, in a fox-brown border of angular serrated leaf vine issuing palmettes between tobacco-brown and ivory interlocking zig-zag stripes.
Persian Gabbeh rugs are traditional handwoven carpets known for their thick, plush pile and minimalist, often whimsical designs. Originating from the nomadic tribes of southern Iran, particularly the Qashqai people, these rugs feature bold colors, geometric patterns, and sometimes depict nature or everyday life. Made from high-quality wool and dyed with natural pigments, Gabbeh rugs are prized for their durability and artistic charm, making them a unique blend of practicality and cultural heritage.
