This Persian Qashqai carpet circa 1940 was created using a wool warp, wool weft, hand-knotted pure wool pile and natural vegetable dyes. The central lion design is rather striking in the way it contrasts the carpet's red field, as well as in its detailed facial features. In Persian folklore, the lion symbolizes kingship, prestige, and the protection of sacred spaces.
