About the Item
61258 Vintage Persian Hamadan Rug, 04'07 x 08'07.
Patriotic flair meets preppy formality in this hand knotted wool vintage Persian Hamadan rug. The angular botanical design and sophisticated color palette woven into this piece work together resulting in a warm and welcoming feel such as American traditional or even English Manor. Taking center stage is a concentric lobed medallion anchored with pendants at vase motifs at either end. An allover pattern composed of stylized florals, pinwheels, leafy botanical forms and rectilinear vines dispersed across the abrashed red field. Intrinsic beige spandrels radiate from each corner echoing designs from within the field. The beige geometric botanical border and navy blue carnation meander guard borders create a lush enclosure and a refreshing finish. Classic iterations of red, beige, and navy blue make this vintage Persian area rug a beautiful expression of American, British, or French patriotism.
Rendered in variegated shades of red, tan, navy blue, verdigris, rose, tan, taupe, glaucous and light pink with other accent colors.

Antique Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Located in New York, NY
Sarouk is a name of a village situated about 25 miles north of Arak (Sultanabad). This region became one of the most active regions of carpet weaving in the late 19th century through the early 20th century. The city's most famous designer was named Farahan. To be able to compete with Kashan in rug commerce, Farahan designed rugs with center medallion motives. Today, these carpets are referred to as Antique 19th century Farahan Sarouks.
In the 1920s and 1930s a well-known rug dealer in New York thought that Americans would buy rose-field carpets with blue borders and detached floral motives. During that period, a vast number of Sarouks with rose-fields and all over floral patterns were woven and exported to the American market. However, the natural dyed rose color did not stand up to the alkaline bath to which new rugs in Arak were subjected in the finishing process. The rose color faded radically. But instead of changing the finishing process or changing the composition of the dyes to stand up to alkali, New York merchants "solved" the problem by arming their staffs with synthetic dyes and little paint brushes with which they painted back in the rose-color in the entire fields of thousands and thousands of rugs and carpets over a period of 20 years. Today, Antique Sarouk rugs and carpets...

Measures: 7'8'' x 11'1''
The Serapi rug can be traced back to the beginning of Persian handmade rug production in 5,500 B.C., but it was not until the mid-19th century that Persian rugs began to be exported around the world. Before these rugs became an export item, they were used only in the villages in which they were produced.
Mellow colors and more minimal pattern distinguish the Serapi from other members of the Heriz family. Original Serapi rugs were created in the villages of Serapi, Sarab, Ahar, Heriz and Gorevan.
