Made with handwoven wool circa 1950-1960, this 6x12 vintage flat-weave gallery runner Kilim is a particularly atmospheric and sought-after work of an exciting new curation from Rug
Kilim’s collection of classic kilims and flatweaves.
On the Design:
This impressive runner captures the beauty of a vast, natural landscape through its richly colored, rhythmic horizontal bands. The design is a sophisticated symphony of alternating stripe widths and deep, complex hues across its entire length. The palette is a masterful blend of earth and jewel tones: broad bands of deep brick red, charcoal brown, and muted olive are interspersed with flashes of saturated indigo blue and soft beige. The varying widths and the inherent color movement (abrash) within the bands prevent the pattern from feeling rigid. The main field is beautifully framed by a border of saw-tooth serrations in high-contrast cream and brown, lending a crisp, ancient geometry to the fluid color work. This piece offers a grounding, high-texture foundation, bringing warmth and depth to any long space.
