About the Item
This vintage 4x7 Persian kilim is a mid-century Qashqai tribal rug, handwoven in wool circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
The mid-century Persian kilim is divided into vertically banded segments, each meticulously defined by a sequence of contrasting patterns and hues. The dominant color field is a saturated pink, exuding warmth and vitality, while flanking panels introduce a series of bold geometric stripes and patterns in cream, green, rust and beige/brown. On the entire field, there are geometric stripes with tribal motifs within them in varying colors—creating a sense of movement and energy while maintaining the symmetrical balance of the overall design. Connoisseurs will admire the technique, in which tribal weavers combine multiple panels into one piece with a repeat pattern. This Persian-style flat weave is a bright, comfortable choice of rustic charm with a natural sense of movement, and vast design applications therein.
