Kilim—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish Minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.
On the Design
Admirers of the craft will know this particular design as an exemplar of the “Swedish Deco” sensibility—a reminder that this movement was a profound influence on early Art Deco rugs as much as the mid-century modern and minimalist movements later. In its colorway a play of beige, light pink and taupe hues in its field underscore rectilinear geometric patterns in both rich and bright hues alike, with a particular emphasis on charcoal black. Keen eyes will further note the high-and-low texture married to the geometry, which lends a fabulous contemporary sense of depth and dimensionality to the geometry. Furthermore the tasteful abrashing created by our blend of yarns further lends a subtle, chic complement to the sense of movement as well—one of many beauties meant to honor an iconic design movement and speak to this collection as a contribution to that movement.
