About the Item
This 5x7 rug is a new addition to the flatweaves in Rug
Kilim’s award-winning Scandinavian rug collection. Made with handwoven wool, its design is inspired by mid-century Swedish minimalist textile designs of the Rollakhan and Rya weaving traditions.
On the Design:
This new flat weave reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of undyed natural yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a subtle nod to Rollakan techniques in a modern fashion. This rug design possesses exemplary textural sensibility that perfectly integrates with the uniform geometric pattern sitting in chic shades of blue and beige-brown. Besides embodying the fine traits of mid-century Swedish aesthetics, this kilim exhibits exceptional durability and buckle resistance making it desirable for areas foreseeing high foot traffic. A hallmark of our contemporary approach recapturing the iconic mid-century modern Swedish Deco style.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
