This 9x12 contemporary rug is an exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—handwoven in a new flat weave construction using a blend of wool and exotic yarns inspired by alpaca.
On the Design:
The design features a fresh interpretation of a classic grid pattern of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions. Coral squares are cleverly framed by interlocking geometric elements in pale rose. The design's playful take on traditional Nordic motifs creates a sophisticated checkerboard effect with a distinctly modern sensibility. Admirers of the craft and keen eyes will further appreciate this as an especially soft new flatweave, with a particularly smooth texture inherent to the exotic yarns—drawing on the look and feel of Alpaca rugs, as nuanced and alluring to the touch as the warm, creamy colors are to the eye.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
