Handwoven flatweave (Röllakan). Woven initials “GS” in lower corner
A finely executed Scandinavian Rollakan rug featuring a central indigo field framed by rhythmic geometric motifs in ivory, rose, and chestnut tones.
The woven initials “GS” are woven into the lower corner, not embroidered or added post-weave. This is consistent with signed works from known Swedish designers, who often integrated their initials during the weaving process. It implies studio-level production, not anonymous factory output.
“GS” correspond to a local hemslöjd, handicraft guild - Regional Craft Associations,
such as "Gävleborgs läns hemslöjd", which sometimes marked pieces with regional identifiers.
Exceptional vintage condition: The wool remains aut and resilient, with no signs of thinning or
structural compromise, the ringes are intact and evenly preserved showing no unraveling or loss,
the colors are vivid yet balanced retaining their original depth without fading or bleeding, the weave is uniform and tight without repairs, stains, or distortions.
Overall presentation is museum-worthy.
