This vintage Swedish flatwoven rug, designed by Maj Svanström for Klockargårdens Hemslöjd in Tällberg, Dalarna, dates back to the height of Sweden's Mid-Century handcraft revival. Measuring 207 x 140 cm, it features a signature "MS" (for Maj Svanström) on the left and "KH" (for Klockargårdens Hemslöjd) on the right, indicating its origin at Klockargården.
Handwoven from pure wool yarn, this rug showcases a grid composition of off-white, pale blue, pale green, and pale yellow tones, accented by various shades of grey. Its white-gray mélange base is adorned with pastel polychrome geometric figures, creating an ingenious modular pattern. The interplay of plus motifs and geometric shapes offers a modernist design that transforms when viewed from different angles, creating a smooth and innovative visual illusion.
