A Rare Swedish Grace Rya Rug, Sweden, 1920s
An exceptional and highly decorative Swedish Grace rya rug from the 1920s, showcasing a vivid and finely balanced symmetrical motif inspired by classical Roman imagery. The central composition features a stylised fountain surrounded by birds and floral elements, rendered in a striking palette of red, yellow, white, and black.
Handwoven in pure wool on a linen foundation, the rug demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship characteristic of Scandinavian textile art from this period. The colours remain remarkably vibrant, and the details are crisp and well preserved.
The rug is in rare, very good original condition, with no loss of pile and excellent structural integrity. Retaining its original fittings on the reverse, it is suitable for use both as a floor rug and as a wall tapestry, allowing for versatile display.
