About the Item
Vintage Swedish Pile Rug by Sigvard Bernadotte
Size: 6'2" × 8'0" (187 × 243 cm)
Designed by Sigvard Bernadotte, this vintage Swedish pile rug exemplifies the sophisticated blend of modernist rhythm and Scandinavian warmth that defined his design ethos. The composition is characterized by a repeating zigzag or wave-like motif rendered in plush pile, offering both a tactile and visual texture that enhances the rug’s dimensionality.
The palette features a delicate combination of dusty rose, muted blush, and creamy ivory, highlighted by contouring lines in olive green and earthy ochre tones. These organic hues work harmoniously together to evoke a subtle sense of motion, while maintaining the softness and restraint typical of Swedish design from the era.
Expertly hand-knotted in wool, the rug boasts exceptional craftsmanship with thick, luxurious pile and carefully executed pattern symmetry. The border is framed in a mossy olive tone, grounding the composition and adding a defined visual edge.
Rich in heritage and artistry, this handmade rug exemplifies the high standards of Doris Leslie Blau’s curated pieces. With a wide range of prices, Doris Leslie Blau makes exceptional rugs accessible to collectors and designers alike.

Sigvard Bernadotte
Sigvard Bernadotte was a Swedish prince and industrial designer. He was the second son of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden and his first wife, Princess Margaret of Connaught, a granddaughter of Britain's Queen Victoria. Bernadotte was born a Swedish prince and was originally titled Duke of Uppland, but was excluded from the line of succession and lost his Swedish titles in 1934 when he married a commoner.
