Dexterously woven in wool circa 1950-1960, this 1950s vintage Kilim piece hails from Rug
Kilim’s iconic Kilim
Flat Weave Collection. Covering a 4x5 near-square scale of Turkish tribal sensibilities, the rug features a symmetric geometric pattern with quarter diamonds in tones of red, brown, orange juxtaposed by white for a gorgeous play of colors on such a rich scale. The tribal motif in the borders complement the enticing sense of movement to further enrich the frame with more meaning . The aristocratic rug also has fringes on one side—uncommon for rugs of this lineage, lending a rare versatility and collectibility. Connoisseurs will further note a subtle high-low accent born of an embroidery pattern, lending an added depth and tactile allure to an eccentric motif variety. Notable symbols include the fetter arrow and s-hook, the latter widely believed to regard an ode to the love of handweaving on behalf of the creator.
