About the Item
This exceptional 19th Century Turkish Anatolian village rug is a rare and visually powerful example of late Ottoman-era tribal weaving, distinguished by its dramatic geometry and rich, naturally dyed palette. Woven in the Anatolia region of Turkey in the late 1800s, the rug is composed in the traditional prayer-format, lending both symbolic meaning and architectural balance to the design.
What makes this piece especially desirable is its strong visual connection to the celebrated Kazak “Eagle” pattern of the Caucasus—a motif associated with protection, strength, and spiritual guardianship. Two bold Eagle medallions dominate the field, floating majestically against a luminous abrash French blue ground, whose subtle tonal shifts reveal the use of hand-dyed, natural pigments.
The composition is framed by an elegant triple-border system in saturated red, deep navy, and warm yellow, creating both contrast and visual structure. This carefully layered border treatment enhances the rug’s graphic presence while maintaining the refined balance characteristic of the finest village weavings. Handwoven from hand-spun wool and natural vegetable dyes.
Adding to its distinction, this rug originates from the private collection of a renowned San Francisco vintage rug connoisseur.

Vintage Turkish Silk Hereke Area Rug in Garden Pattern in Burgundy, Ivory, Blue
Located in Barrington, IL
Step into a world of unparalleled artistry with this beautiful Vintage Turkish Hereke All-Silk Area Rug, also known as "silk on silk." This exquisite piece is a masterpiece of design and weaving, showcasing the legendary craftsmanship for which Hereke silk rugs are renowned.
This rug features a stunning "Garden Design", a theme that brings a vibrant tapestry of nature to life. The rug's field is a warm and inviting shade of copper-red, providing a rich backdrop for its intricate motifs. Throughout both the field and the border, a symphony of flowers and elegant birds are meticulously rendered in a diverse palette of serene blue, verdant green, sunny yellow, earthy brown, and creamy ivory colors.
A beautiful cream central medallion serves as a focal point, mirroring the design and color of the equally stunning ivory border. The border itself is a work of art, with a continuous pattern of flowers and birds that seamlessly frames the central garden.
A key characteristic of this rug is its extremely high knot density and exceptionally fine weaving techniques, which allow for an incredible level of detail and a lustrous, velvety silk pile. These qualities make the rug truly an artisan creation, and it is well suited for display on a wall, where its intricate beauty can be fully appreciated as a piece of fine art. Its fine weave, vibrant design, and exceptional quality ensure it will be a cherished focal point for generations to come.
