About the Item

This exquisite late 19th-century Turkish Anatolian village rug is a refined expression of traditional rural weaving, prized for its bold geometry, luminous natural dyes, and beautifully aged character. Handwoven in western Anatolia during the late 1800s, the rug features a striking navy-blue medallion motif resting within a warm brick-red ground, all set against a softly glowing tan field that gives the composition remarkable depth and balance. The village weaver used hand-spun, high-grade wool dyed exclusively with natural vegetable pigments, resulting in gentle abrash and subtle tonal variation that has mellowed gracefully over time. This organic color movement gives the rug a living, painterly quality that modern reproductions simply cannot replicate. Framing the design is a beautifully articulated primary border in abrash dark blue, filled with bold geometric motifs that echo the strength of the central medallion while providing a sophisticated architectural frame. Adding to its distinction, this Anatolian rug comes from the private collection of a renowned San Francisco vintage rug connoisseur, reinforcing its authenticity, quality, and collector-grade provenance. Antique Turkish Isparta Rug with Red Open Field and Medallion
Located in Long Island City, NY
Made with hand-knotted wool and originating in the early 20th century, this 15x22 antique Persian rug is a rare and exciting new curation from our Antique collection. On the Design: Keen eyes will appreciate the play of medallion and open field, where the rich red underscores the large-scale geometric medallion enclosed in a thick, finely-detailed border. The natural sense of depth of the medallion pattern brings out both the natural, regal character of the design in kindred hues of rich red, blue, and pink, as well as the meticulous accenting hues of a grayish blue against the prevailing colorway. The construction hosts a lustrous wool that brings out the texture and finesse of this rare regal piece. Admirers of the craft will note the design influence of Turkish Isparta rugs...
