This piece, woven in the mid-19th century in the Dazkırı region of Afyonkarahisar, is a fine example of the Anatolian “yastık” tradition. Yastıks were small-format rugs, often used as pillow covers or decorative mats, and they carry the same artistic richness as larger Anatolian rugs.
Designs and Motifs:
The central hexagonal medallion surrounded by stylized floral patterns is characteristic of Dazkırı weaving. The strong geometric framing and vibrant motifs symbolize protection and prosperity, while also reflecting the weavers’ cultural heritage.
Colors:
Dominated by warm shades of red, complemented by ivory, blue, and earthy tones, the palette is achieved through natural dyes. These colors not only add vibrancy but also embody symbolic meanings: red for vitality, blue for protection, and white for purity.
Technique:
