Hand-knotted in wool circa1910-1920, this 2x3 scatter rug is an antique Bergama rug, from the tribal weaving tradition of the same name in Turkey near the Aegean sea.
On the Design:
This gift sized piece enjoys large medallions and other geometric patterns in primitivist motifs from traditional weaving cultures. Its field is brick red, its border a rich chocolate brown, and its patterns mostly blue and pista green, though many other vibrant accents are present in its subtle beauties.
