About the Item
This antique, circa 1880, hand-woven Anatolian Oushak rug features a tomato-red field with a large ivory linked lattice forming bold lozenges containing light blue serrated lozenges and sky-blue cusped lozenges linked by angular floral stems and floral motifs, with single palmettes at each side attached to the ivory lattice, further pairs of part similar palmettes at each end issuing flowering stems, in a broad sky-blue border of polychrome palmettes surrounded by flowering stems alternating with ivory flowering plants facing outwards into the minor stripes with a narrow golden-yellow band forming stepped arches and paired tendrils, between golden-yellow and light blue floral vine stripes, outer tomato-red and ivory linked lozenge stripes.
