This 11x13 antique Oushak rug represents one of the most unexpected, exceptional curations of this celebrated provenance in the Rug
Kilim collection—a whimsical, yet regal early 20th century design teeming with the unexpected sense of color and movement among the man beauties that distinguish Oushaks in the historic of Turkish rugs—made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Anatolia circa 1910-1920.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will know Oushak rugs often reflect a fascinating fusion of Persian, Chinese, and Central Asian design elements, and are one of the most individualistic rug types for each piece’s unique employ of more feminine, transitional colors and atypical drawings. This particular piece depicts classic palmette floral patterns—widely regarded symbols of fortune and prosperity—with a gorgeous departure from their usual sense of symmetry, most notably in the field’s playful dance of designs.
