Showcasing a bold expressive design, incredible detail and texture, this hand-knotted wool antique Turkish Oushak rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The antique Turkish carpet not only carries deep meaning woven within the piece, but it is also very similar to the Oushak rug is in a painting from 1876, 'Portrait of Dr. John Brinton' by Thomas Eakins. The abrashed red field features five vertical columns composed of Herati style medallions, serrated palmettes, and protection amulets decorated with diamonds and cruciform motifs. The red antique Oushak rug is enclosed with a rosette border flanked with a series of inner and outer guard bands. The interplay between the piece’s various decorative elements gives the composition a great deal of visual interest and graphic appeal.
