Originating from Turkey in 1900, this antique transitional wool Kilim rug features an atypically rich and Minimalist combination of colorways among its kind. A square piece flat-woven in quality wool, the eight-pointed medallion in the center of the all-over field design has distinct oriental sensibilities, representing ornate distinction matched by the curvilinear garlands in the border; both woven in perfect horizontal and vertical symmetry. A surprising complement to this auspicious eastern design is the rich crimson red, black, and minimal gray accents throughout this field, whereas many pieces employing this pattern focus more on color variation than this piece, which concentrates on subtle texture and finesse.
