This 12x15 antique Turkish rug of Kayseri provenance is a rich and exciting new curation from Rug
Kilim’s collection of important classics—a particularly unique find among works of a celebrated weaving tradition, made with hand-knotted wool.
On the Design:
A bright open field underscores a central medallion of elongated pendant form against a luminous beige-ivory field—a characteristic Kayseri design that reflects the imperial Ottoman design sensibilities. The medallion displays multiple concentric layers of geometric and floral patterning, culminating in a precisely rendered rosette at its center. Particularly noteworthy is the medallion's elegant contour with its distinctive pointed terminals that create perfect vertical alignment within the design. The field is adorned with a delicate lattice of floral vine work that radiates outward from the central medallion, creating a sophisticated network of secondary motifs that balance the dominant central element.
The border demonstrates classical Ottoman hierarchy with a primary border featuring a continuous floral vine pattern framed by multiple secondary borders. Each border band maintains its distinct pattern language while creating a harmonious transition from the central field to the carpet's edge. The colorway exhibits the subtle tonal palette associated with the finest Kayseri production— dominated by ivory, soft terracotta, and delicate blue accents.
