Antique Turkish Oushak Rug Doris Leslie Blau

This antique Turkish Oushak rug rests on a softly mottled ivory-cream field shot through with very pale beige abrash. Across this serene ground runs a loose, oversized network of faintly drawn diaper lines in light taupe, creating large, irregular lozenges that anchor scattered floral and foliate motifs. At the center of several lozenges bloom stylized palmettes in warm amber-terracotta, dusty rose-beige, and soft moss green—each petal edged in a whisper of pale gray for subtle definition. Smaller rosettes and lanceolate leaves, rendered in the same terracotta and green palette, drift freely between the larger forms, giving the design an airy, almost floating quality. A slim inner border of repeating floral rosettes in amber and rose frames the field, leading out to a broad main border on an ivory-cream ground. Its scrolling vine of exaggerated oak-leaf and palmette forms alternates between terracotta, golden ochre, and muted sage, all outlined in light taupe. A final narrow guard of angular “S-”scrolls in amber completes the composition. Hand-knotted in wool with a low, even pile, this Oushak displays the gentle wear and color variations—abrash—characteristic of genuine age. Its softly muted neutrals warmed by amber and rose make it an ideal anchor for both traditional and contemporary interiors, bringing a sunlit, relaxed elegance to living rooms, dining spaces, or bedrooms.
