About the Item
This antique handwoven prayer rug was made in what is now Turkey, and dates to circa 1750-1780. This rug is done in a background of pastel hues which accent the muted red central "Mihrab" or prayer arch which is bordered by a series of stylized flowers, most likely representing carnations. The outer range of this rug is decorated with a sequence of stylized shrubs or bushes which are also banded by the same stylized flower motif as the central portion. This prayer rug is in completely original condition and has not undergone any repairs or restoration and can be used for its intended purpose or hung as a tapestry.
