This Malatya Cicim kilim from Turkey, woven in the 1960s, embodies the bold artistry of Anatolian embroidery. Handwoven from hand-spun wool, it features intricate cicim (raised) embroidery forming a lattice of diamonds — each filled with symbolic geometric motifs representing protection and continuity.
The richly layered palette of crimson red, burnt orange, violet, saffron yellow, mint green, ivory, and charcoal is derived from natural plant-based dyes, now softly mellowed with age.
