This exceptional palace-scale rug is a new, post-1990 hand-knotted piece from Turkey, woven in the tradition of the historic Oushak workshops. At approximately 18 ft × 20 ft (area ~33 m²) and weighing over 66 kg, it is a true oversize / palace format—intended for grand rooms where architectural scale and visual calm are equally important.
Design
Visual Character
The layout is allover and border-framed, with a single main border supported by subtle inner and outer guard lines. The field is open and airy, featuring stylized palmettes, rosettes, abstract floral sprays, vine scrolls, and small geometric accents. Motifs are medium in scale and arranged with approximate two-way vertical symmetry, creating balance without rigidity. There is no central medallion, allowing the design to read expansively and evenly across the large surface—ideal for gallery-like interiors.
The palette is refined and understated: a light warm gray ground softened by pale denim blue, cream, soft sand beige, mushroom brown, dusty aqua, and muted peach accents. Contrast is intentionally low, and subtle abrash in the gray and blue tones adds depth without visual noise. The border motifs carry slightly stronger color concentration, gently framing the rug without overpowering the field.
