Large felt carpet or rug. A large old wool carpet or rug from Central Turkey, made of two identical halves stitched together, in "felt" technique matting, condensing and pressing wool fibers, possibly the oldest form of fabric. Felt carpets like these would be the floor covers in homes in small towns in Central Turkey and they would be ordered from local workshops. This pair was made apparently for two sisters whose names are inscribed at the top, along with the name of the felt-maker.
