About the Item
This wonderful niche carpet comes from Avunya, northwest Anatolia in the province of Bergama. It has the typical attributes of these rare carpets. The harmonious balance of the design, the deep red prayer niche and the wide, powerful white-ground border with vine leaves motifs in red and blue. The beautiful piece is very well preserved for its age and dates from the last third of the 19th century. (approx. 1870/1880). It is a rare collector's item.
