About the Item
This is a Turkish Beaulieu Oushak Rug made in the 19th century. Oushak rugs originate from the city of Usak, Turkey and use a particular family of designs woven using dyes that lean towards: cinnamons, terracotta tints, gold, blues, greens, ivory, saffron and grays. This area has been a major rug producer since the early Ottoman Empire and late 20th century.
This Oushak has a beautiful turmeric orange base that is bisected by an abstract floral medallion. The wool used to weave this rug was dyed through a natural process using vegetable dyes, giving this rug a beautiful earthy color. This rug is filled with abstract geometric designs that are framed by two borders.
