About the Item
In a modified, Persianate “Vase carpet” design of oblique, banded oval palmettes, petal palmettes and abstract iris amphora palmettes, all on a Turkey red ground, this carpet was intended to compete, when new, with contemporaneous Persian rugs. Main border of rhomboidal ivory cartouches with blue bent leaves separating them. Reciprocal keyhole minors. Definitely a cut above the usual Oushak fare. Moderate weave. Good condition.
