Hand-knotted in wool, originating from Turkey circa 1960-1970, a 5x9 mid-century Turkish interpretation of the 1920s Art Deco style—with a particular feel of Chinese Deco in its elements.
On the Design:
A rich green underscores an almost open field design, with mirrored floral patterns in beige-brown tones relegated to the upper right and lower left corners. Keen eyes will further admire pictorial representations of vases in the patterns—a celebrated motif in Chinoiserie rugs as well as similar oriental provenances often considered to be of the Chinese Deco aesthetic. This rare piece from Zeki Müren is a more playful mid-century modern interpretation of a 1920s look, with Chinese style floral patterns in rich tones seldom seen in his works.
