Made with handwoven wool in Turkey circa 1950-1960, this 3x20 vintage Kilim and extra-long runner rug is a rare and exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s curation of mid-century tribal kilims.
On the Design:
Burgundy and brick red, indigo and navy blue, and beige-brown tones are the most present in the colorway, though keen eyes will further admire bright white and cream accents as well in the all over play of stripes and geometric patterns. Keen eyes will admire a subtle textural element to varied rows of geometric—an extra looping of embroidery that lends the diamond motifs, ram’s horn latch hooks, chevrons and many other tribal motifs at play a fabulous sense of dimensionality and tactile allure.
Admirers of the craft will recognize what a special find any Kilim or flatweave in this size is today, let alone one with this element typically seen in smaller area rugs and textiles. It’s an exemplar of the personal, intricate details that lend Kilims like these their particular, rustic charm and intimate beauty, and its length is a particularly versatile design element as well—especially suitable to full staircases, long hallways, table runners and more.
