Made with hand-knotted all-natural silk in Turkey circa 1970-1980, this 6x7 vintage square rug is one of the exceptional works of renowned craftsman George Jevremovic—a unique design inspired by antique Ottoman rugs and textiles, and a rich curation from Rug
Kilim's artisan collection.
On the Design:
This piece enjoys a mauve purple ground, which underscores large-scale floral medallions in chartreuse green—stylized lotus blossoms that admirers of the craft may recognize from Ottoman kemha (or silk brocaded pieces like those known to celebrate this design). Keen eyes for detail will further admire the skillful use of bright red, blue and white accents; a deceptively humble palette among those that lend this piece its particular brightness and presence.
