Vintage Tribal Kilim Rug with Polychrome Vertical Stripes

An unusual flat-weave from the Karapinar region in central Anatolia decorated by vertical stripes in the tones of ivory, grey, camel, yellow and black.

A graphic tribal kilim composed of two joined panels each containing an array of polychrome vertical stripes in a variety of natural colours. The result is a wool flat-weave with a mirror image pattern. What makes this example rather unique is the richness of the individual colors, obtained from natural dyes, as well the generous width of the vertical stripes. Furthermore, the quality of the individual dyes, which include a wonderful indigo blue and a clear coral red, are indicative of an early vintage. The piece is in pristine condition. The resulting visual effect is highly abstract and reminiscent more of Western contemporary art...
