About the Item
Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Turkey circa 1950-1960, this 3x4 vintage Tulu rug is an extremely rare piece like so few of its provenance.
On the Design:
Tulus are some of the most sought-after high-pile and shag rugs, often mentioned in the same breath as Greek Flokati and Moroccan rugs for their own unique take on a lush, comfortable look and feel. This vintage piece is among the family of Tulus with minimalist medallion patterns, as seen in the rich pink and gold atop beige tones. Admirers of the craft may note that the medallions are clearly inspired by archaic tribal motifs, most closely resembling the ram’s horn motif, though they share some qualities with other symbols of fertility, jewelry, and similar nomadic cultural meanings. With a great size and vast design applications therein, it is very cozy and livable above all, with just a touch of personality.
Condition:
This vintage Tulu rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin, and is very rare for its provenance.
