These 3x8 vintage runners are a rare identical pair of mid-century tulu rugs from Turkey—one of few sets of twin runners in this style from Rug
Kilim’s collection, made with hand-knotted wool circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will know tulu rugs for their lush, textural high-pile construction—a shag texture keeping with the word’s meaning in Turkish translating to “long-haired.” This pair is exemplary of the more simple works one admires in this provenance, where cream white and beige tones underscore these long fibers with a light, almost neutral sense of beauty and soft presence. Patterless, solid Tulus like these are some of the most versatile, rich and comfortable works in Turkish weaving, and their duality offers equally vast design applications for decorators with matching or adjoining spaces in mind.
Condition:
