53056, vintage Turkish Oushak rug with Mid-Century Modern Tribal style. Blending tribal charm, ancient symbolism and Folk Art warmth, this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug beautifully showcases a bold elemental design. The abrashed field features an all-over geometric pattern composed of a two diamond lozenges outlined with additional hooked bands creating an Expansion effect. Hooked amulets grace each corner spandrel adding visual interest and depth. The vintage Turkish rug is enclosed with a Elibelinde motif border. Though deceptively simple, this vintage Turkish rug is steeped in Anatolian history. Derived from the virility of the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the centre.
