About the Item
Made with hand-knotted wool and originating circa 1960-1970, this 6x10 vintage Turkish rug is an exciting new piece in Rug
Kilim’s collection of rare mid-century rugs.
On The Design:
Beige-brown borders with green accents enfold an ivory white field, with a central medallion introducing burgundy red tones into the palette. Admirers of the craft may appreciate this design’s reimagining of traditional prayer rug aesthetics, though the central field's lattice pattern also looks to draw inspiration from classical Ottoman motifs. Particularly noteworthy are the corner spandrels, where the same delicate geometric latticework creates an elegant design with the medallion's dominant form. Overall it’s a unique mid-20th-century interpretation of archaic beauty—an intriguing find among works of its period, and possibly descended from a special atelier workshop among those known for their eccentric, unusual designs of this provenance.
Condition:
This mid-century rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its pile height has been lowered to preserve its construction, which lends it the distressed look of wear and boho chic in the nap—a low pile height well-suited to swinging and sliding doors, among many clearance-conscious design applications.
