Hand knotted in wool and originating in Turkey circa 1950-60, this 3x6 vintage runner rug is a rare and exciting new curation from Rug
Kilim’s collection of one-of-a-kind mid-century Turkish pieces.
On the Design:
This is a very special piece, particularly since it’s one of few pictorial rugs we’ve seen in this period and construction, and one that seems to have a profound air of Chinese influence in its design. An ochre border encloses a bright tangerine red field, and both enjoy buddhist motifs, floral patterns, and scenery with clear elements of Chinese Architecture. These one-of-a-kind, eccentric pieces are some of the most personal, regal and sought-after in rugs and folk art, and to see one adapted to these Turkish elements and delightful informalities is truly special, not to mention beautiful in its presence choice of colors (the latter of which, too, seems to have a Khotan influence).
Condition:
This mid-century rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its pile has been lowered to maintain its construction, which creates the look of a distressed rug, though it is perfectly ready for the floor as is.
