Tribal enchantment meets Anatolian charm in this handwoven wool vintage Turkish kilim rug runner. The navy blue field sets the stage with an allover pattern of fertility symbols. The combined motifs of "hands on hips" and "ram's horn" symbolize the union of a man and a woman in Anatolian culture, representing fertility. This pattern includes two 'elibelinde' motifs for the female, two 'kocboynuzu' motifs for the male, and an eye motif for protection against the evil eye.
Along the heart of the composition are five stepped medallions adorned with repeating bird motifs. The "bird" motif in Anatolian culture symbolizes happiness, joy, and love, and also represents the soul of the departed, anticipation of news, and longing. It embodies power and strength, serving as an emblem for various states founded in Anatolia.
