Hand-knotted in wool, circa 1960 - 1970, this 7x9 vintage Müren Art Deco rug features geometric patterns, clearly inspired by the ‘composition’ style paintings from the masters like Piet Mondrian and the many French Art Deco masters who, like Müren, were devoted students of their craft.
On the Design:
Connoisseurs may admire that what sets this rug apart is its silver gray field/undertones with colorful geometric patterns in a black grid, clearly inspired by the ‘composition’ style paintings from the masters like Piet Mondrian and the many French Art Deco masters. It is quintessential of Müren’s playful sense of movement, choices of color and the rare shabby-chic works that emerged—as modern today as they were ahead of their time In this rug’s design, each geometric block in silver/gray, red, orange, green and yellow seamlessly interlocking with the next, forms a balanced composition.
While still embracing the geometric motifs synonymous with the Art Deco movement, Muren adds his own playful twist, resulting in a design that is both striking and reserved. While the design is full of movement, there is also a sense of restraint and sophistication.
